big Red Drum caught in New Orleans

New Orleans Fishing Report – December

In December of 2019, the weather rarely gave us a break. Usually, in December the die-hard fisherman comes down from up north, so the cold/windy weather does not deter them from heading out. On our good weather days, the fish are cooperating nicely. Live shrimp and pink, or clear plastic lure on a 5/16th oz jighead are good for trout. Live shrimp are great for Reds as well. The low water conditions we normally see this month (good for redfish) have been infrequent. High water paired with high winds makes for a challenging day of fishing in the local area. On the 12th, I had Mr. Al White fly down to target Redfish. Al pulled in 9 slot redfish from the local area. A few days later I had James and Michele request a mixed catch. We left a trout bite with 30 on ice to chase Redfish. They ended with 30 trout, 4 reds, 1 big cat, 1 big sheepshead. A day later Mark and Laurel had beautiful weather and hauled in 63 trout and 10 redfish. The trout started to scatter towards the end of the month, but we still had great catches going into the New Year.
